Mitsubishi Evolution X

First previewed in 2007, the all-new tenth-generation Lancer Evolution was introduced by Mitsubishi for the 2008 model year, continuing the nameplate's tradition of high performance in a small-displacement four-passenger sedan.

The Evolution X is offered in two trim levels. The entry-level GSR is offered with a five-speed manual transmission, Recaro Sport seats and Enkei wheels, as well as optional spoiler, HID headlights, and upgraded sound system.

The upgraded MR includes Mitsubishi's new Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST), Eibach springs and Bilstein shock absorbers, lightweight brake rotors and BBS forged-alloy wheels, and extra sound insulation, as well as optional navigation, upgraded audio with Sirius Satellite reception, and leather seats.

Both trim levels feature the new all-aluminum 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder MIVEC4 motor producing 295 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque and Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) drive system.

The S-AWC system, which regulates torque and braking at each wheel includes a bevy of acronyms: ASC (Active Stability Control), ACD (Active Center Differential), AYC (Active Yaw Control) and Sport ABS, an ABS system designed for aggressive driving. The biggest difference over the outgoing car is the large number of yaw sensors included in the system, all designed to keep the Evo X on its intended path. The S-AWC system can be set for three different road surfaces: tarmac (standard), ice and gravel

The Twin Clutch SST on the MR appears similar to Audi/VW's DSG system; even and odd gears are on separate clutches for rapid-fire shifting and no torque loss between gears. Shifting of the TC-SST is controlled by alloy paddles on the steering wheel or the gear shift lever when in manual mode, and by the engine computer in automatic mode. The system has three modes: Normal, Sport and S-Sport, the latter providing the most aggressive, fast shifts.

Safety measures include the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) unibody system to disperse energy in front and side impact collisions and protect the fuel system from rear impact, and front and side impact air bags, plus a driver's knee air bag.

Overview

Overview

Revealed in late 2007, the 2009 GT-R marks the revival of an iconic nameplate for Nissan. The car is powered by a 3.8L twin-turbo V6, good for 480 horsepower and 434 ft-lb of torque.
The only transmission that will be available in the GT-R is a GR6 dual-clutch six-speed. The GT-R's powertrain is reportedly good for a zero to 60 time of 3.5 seconds, a quarter mile time of only 11.7 seconds and a top speed of 192 mph.

In addition, recent reports indicate the GT-R lapped the Nurburgring's Nordschleife in 7 min 35 seconds - placing it in some pretty elite company. That time trails the Pagani Zonda F by two seconds and the Koenigsegg CCR by one, but the GT-R lapped the track faster than a Mercedes SLR McLaren (7 min 40 sec), Porsche 911 Turbo (7 min 40 sec) and the Corvette Z06 (7 min 42 sec).

GT-R's hybrid body construction combines steel, carbon fiber and die-cast aluminum, and features a low coefficient of drag of 0.27, while achieving high front and rear downforce.

Pricing for the sports car starts at $69,850 - $71,900 for the premium edition - in the United States.

Nissan MURANO

Overview

Nissan took the wraps off an all-new Murano crossover for the 2009 model year. Nissan calls the vehicle "super-evolution" of the first-generation Murano.
The Murano comes into its own in 2009.

The crossover features a new exterior and interior, more standard technology, and an improved driving experience thanks to a new platform - the new Altima's "D" architecture, to be exact.

What's more Nissan says it has further refined the Murano's standard engine and introduced a second-generation Xtronic CVT. Nissan's standard 3.5 liter V6 has been on Ward's '10 Best Engines' list for 13 years. The Murano also has intuitive all-wheel-drive or front-wheel-drive.

All 2009 Muranos feature a VQ-series 3.5-liter DOHC V6 rated at 265 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque coupled to a CVT transmission with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC). 2009 Muranos are available in front-wheel drive or with an all-wheel drive system. The Murano comes standard with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with a Traction Control System (TCS).

The most striking visual element of the 2009 Murano is its new body, which Nissan says has been infused with a 'modern art' feel while still maintaining its distinctive DNA.

The new Murano design also includes an available dual panel power sliding glass moonroof and second row skylight. Other available features include a new foldaway cargo organizer, heated front and rear seats, power liftgate, rain-sensing front wipers and Rear View Monitor.

The Murano comes in three versions: the S, which has all the basic equipment; the SL with more style and fog lights, rear privacy glass, and 8-way power driver's seat; and the LE, the luxurious model with 20 inch wheels, Xenon headlights, and Bose audio system. Customers can also have mood lighting and memory seating with two programmed seating arrangements for the driver's seat. In the trunk, power-up seats fold down for more space and then move up again at the touch of a lever.
